Engine Packing

This is how NOT to pack an Engine up.

Unfortunately engines like to move around once inside a box and need a good amount of packaging in there to hold all the parts secure, it is essential that it is packaged well before it gets sent to us.

Writing FRAGILE on the outside of the box is not enough as the package will go through various couriers' hands and delivery depots before its final destination.

Last thing to do is to make sure our address is clearly visible on the outside of the box so it gets to the right place!

You can wright "this way up" or "Fragile Handle with care" all over the box and hope for the best.

Here are our recommendations on how to correctly pack your engine up to send to us.

Firstly you need a good thick walled strong box.

Next make sure to create a good thick base for the engine to sit on some polystyrene and cardboard if handy.

Old newspapers or chunky wrapping paper can be used to create a cushion.

With your engine as clean as you can get it and completely drained of oil and coolant (because parcel services WILL REFUSE to collect a soggy oily box) we like to take the precaution and wrap a plastic bag around the engine. That way if any coolant or oil that has not been drained properly will only go into the bag u can use a bin bag for this And for any spare parts you are sending place them in a few old supermarket bags if nothing better available.

Place your engine in the box carefully on the base cushion u have created and then pack in the sides with as much packing material you can find. Things like old newspapers cardboard shredding's, tubes anything that can provide a good damage sponge should it be knocked in the sides. This side packing also plays another important part in keeping the engine upright and in the same place you put it when you packed it.

Now do exactly as you have done with the base of the box but on the top making sure you cover all sticky out bits like thermostats, Kick start levers and sparkplugs as these can penetrate through the box.

A few more thick layers of cardboard and a covering letter explaining the work you require and most importantly your name and phone number and the address you would like it to be returned to.

Now we are almost done just tape the box up making sure to cover holes Ductape/Gorilla Tape is a good strong tape to use rather than celotape and masking tape isn't recommended as it does tear easily.

Last thing to do is to make sure our address is clearly visible on the outside of the box so it gets to the right place!

You can wright "this way up" or "Fragile Handle with care" all over the box and we recommend taking the insured option to cover the cost of replacing or fixing a damged or lost engine.

Any further questions on job packing please don't hesitate to give us a call.
